Every creature including human beings have children who are being protected and trained to preserve and transfer the cultures and believes to the next generation. In the same way for an idea to be preserved and transferred to the next generation must be taught to children. Ideas perceived at a young age remain in the memory of children for their life time and that is the secret discovered by Mr. Conor the author of Tuttle Twins books. He presented the ideas on liberty, peace and prosperity in a more simple ways using stories and illustrations that are admired by children as well as young adults.
Tuttle Twins books was written by Mr. Conor Boyack who is the president of Libertas Institute, a free market think tank. The books have 13 series and are children friendly. The books have been used in many countries around the world including Africa to educate children on the liberal ideas that promote human happiness and individual prosperity. Based on the discussion between Mr. John Mustapha Kutiyote the Executive Director of Organization for Liberty and Entrepreneurship (Olent) and Mr. Glenn Boyer the need to use Tuttle Twins books in South Sudan was discussed.
Like many South Sudanese, Mr. John Mustapha has ever heard of Tuttle Twins books but has never interacted with the books but after Glenn explained about the books, John picked interest and read the book online on the Magic Pencil. In the later discussions with Glenn, John accepted to introduce Tuttle Twins books in South Sudan. With the generous support from Glenn a consignment of 120 Tuttle Twins Books were purchased and sent to South Sudan but the consignment was not delivered because it got lost along the way by Postal Service Of United States and no compensation was made.
Was that the end of the initiative? No, Mr. Glenn was not settled until he succeeds in sending the books to South Sudan and contribute to individual liberty and prosperity by making the books available to children and educate their minds and hearts to embrace the ideas for a better and prosperous South Sudan. Then, Mr. Glenn had to give a second chance to resend the books to South Sudan. The shipment contained 81 copies of The Law and two copies of each of the 13 series of the books. The consignment had to be sent to South Sudan through Uganda using the address of OLENT sister organization (Action for Liberty and Economic Development). Thanks to the network of friends in the liberty movement in Africa, the consignment within a month arrived and collected by Mr. Joram on behalf of ALED who in turn sent the consignment using a bus from Kampala to Juba South Sudan. The consignment arrived Juba in two days and was later sent to Yambio Western Equatoria State the final destination of the consignment.
OLENT has readers groups in 5 primary schools in Western Equatoria State with 25 members in each group. Therefore, Tuttle Twins Books program will adopt and pilot the program in 3 primary schools to 75 pupils over a period of 2 months with the first series of the Tuttle Twins Book on the Law. This first series is very important because it will enhance the understanding of children that everyone is under the law. Thereafter, the other series will be followed sequentially to educate the minds and the hearts of children to understand the principles of liberty and prosperity. As the children group up, they will uphold and advance the principles of liberty and prosperity for human flourishing and happiness.
South Sudan is one of the world’s youngest countries in terms of its formation and has a population of 11.4 million as of 2020. In a fragile context such as South Sudan, learning about the life, liberty and prosperity have the ability to improve peace and create opportunities for young people to participate in economic activities when they grow up, rather than in violence and conflict.
South Sudan literacy rate is 40% but teaching the children to read and understand the content of Tuttle Twins books will contribute and improve their reading, listening, leadership and spoken English. The program will also contribute to peace building and social co-existence among the children. It will also contribute to improved academic performances in schools. As the program is rolled out we will see more improvement in the social, economic and political aspects of their lives.
